Drawing is my passion and over the years I have accumulated a vast collection of coloured pencils some of which date back to the 1970s when I was a student at St Martins School of Art, London. After my degree in Graphic Design, during which I specialised in Illustration, I worked as a freelance illustrator often using coloured pencils for magazine, editorial and advertising commissions.

Originally from Essex, I later lived in Brighton for 15 years and moved to St Ives in 1994. I now live in Hayle a short walk from the Towans and beaches.

I also have an MA in the History of Modern Art and Design and this understanding inspires my teaching and my own practice.

In 2017 I used coloured pencils in combination with pencil for some large commissions for the National Trust. These drawings now hang in Trelissick House here in Cornwall.
I have spent much of the Summer of 2021 drawing en plein and I love working on tinted pastel papers.
My favourite subjects include nature and architecture. I love perspective and old houses with a story to tell. I self-published my first book ‘Godolphin’ (2010) as part of an MA in Illustration: Authorial Pratice at UCF.
My book ‘Illustrations of the Leach Pottery St Ives’ (2018) won a Holyer an Gof award in 2019.

I have included a selection of works; some older like ‘Party Hands’ drawn whilst first a student, ‘Chocolate Cream Cakes’ which I did during a time when I had freelance desk-space in a Studio in Soho, mostly involved in advertising, storyboards and packaging whereas ‘Alison’s Sunflowers’ is a very recent study.
I taught art part time in schools and colleges from 1980 and I run art courses for the Field Studies Council.
I have been a tutor at the St Ives School of Painting regularly since 1995.

I no longer work as a freelance illustrator, preferring to pursue my own drawing projects, and I am very happy to work on commissions.
