My name is Margaret Orchard. I have lived in Norfolk for the last 13 years. In the 60's I studied art in London, at A-Level, gaining an A grade for studies in Life Drawing, Still Life (in oils), and Composition. I then trained as a Junior School Teacher where art was one of my main subjects. This was invaluable to me as it helped me in preparing posters, work sheets and lesson plans, as well as games, for the children in my care.
However, once married and with a young family, art was forgotten about until, in my retirement, I once again turned to art, joined a local art group and enrolled in a couple of classes to expand my knowledge of using different mediums. I absolutely love learning new techniques. I have acquired a large library of Art Books. I read them like novels and refer to them constantly.
I have also enrolled on many distance learning courses. These include several with the London Art College where I gained A-Grades in Pet Portraiture and Coloured Pencil Work, one in the use of Scraperboard, several Coloured Pencil Courses including two with Ann Swan, a Watercolour Course over several years with Anna Mason where I was delighted to have a picture included in her new book.
I am two thirds of the way through a course with the London Art College, on "Botanical Illustration in Coloured Pencil". My favourite mediums are graphite, coloured pencil and watercolour. My favourite subjects are portraits, pet portraits and botanical work. I was awarded "Student of the Year" at the London Art College in 2013, have had a reference in the Leisure Painter with a picture in graphite of my husband, and have been awarded "best in show" as voted by local residents, a couple of times, at our annual club art exhibition.
