Mark grew up near Derby and started his design and illustration career in the city. YTS and BTEC courses followed school and the computer age had not really started in his design education. He recalls everything was still hand rendering text and pretty much everything in the design work until the very final artwork was typical.

2 years on a HND in general graphic design studies and 4 years as a graphic artist in Sheffield until 1999. His second graphic artist's job brought Mark to Belper where he lives and works today. It was in the second computer based design job Mark missed drawing on paper and started animal portrait commissions. Architecture and landscapes later followed.

Mark’s background has shaped his approach. His drawing skills are self-taught copying old railway photographs and were developed before he had any formal tuition. However, his interest in photography and the influence of graphic art and illustration have refined his eye for image creation and composition.
