I was born and bred in Hastings, East Sussex during WW2, and I'm still here. I came to art late in life, and it probably shows. Nevertheless, I'm now trying to make up for lost time. I'm a largely self-taught artist. Having attending night classes for a while, I soon realised that studying the works and techniques of the great and the good, visiting as many galleries and exhibitions as possible, and putting in loads of practice, leads to a modicum of progress, eventually. Whether those methods have made my work attractive to others is not for me to say, but one thing is for sure, painting opens one's eyes to the beauty of this little rock called Earth.....and it is so much fun as well.
Most of my artwork is completed in soft pastels and in oils, but I am gradually increasing my pencil output. I find that working with coloured pencils is both relaxing and stimulating while demanding discipline and care. One day I shall hopefully reach a standard that I feel was worth the effort that I put in.
Awards/Exhibitions
I have exibited in several shared exhibitions at Hasting Art Forum's gallery in St Leonards-on-Sea, together with members exhibitions there. I shall be solely adorning the walls of the restaurant of the FILO pub in Hastings for the month of March 2023.
