After receiving my grade A O-Level in Art over 40 years ago, I didn’t really pick up a pencil or paintbrush again. Fast forward to the pandemic, when so many of us were looking for things to occupy us at home, I picked up my pencils again. I initially worked with graphite only, tuning in each week to Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Week online to try to draw the latest celebrity, then moved onto coloured pencils (after finding an old tin of them I had in the loft since my school days).

Now, this is my absolute favourite medium as the detailed work really appeals to me.

Favourite media:
My go-to pencils are Faber Castell Polychromos but if I am drawing skin, I also use Caran D’Ache Luminance as there are some lovely shades for skin shadows.

For paper, I have tried many but always go back to Strathmore Bristol Smooth.
