John Birnie

My coloured pencil journey started when I retired in 2012, I had studied art many years previously at school but didn’t follow it up, it was only after retiring and with all the information available online and the examples of what can be achieved I got inspired and have gradually developed my pencil drawing.
I live in the Shetland Islands UK and am fortunate to have an abundant source of wildlife and scenery that I photograph and use for my drawing references.
I generally use Prismacolor, Polychromos and Derwent Lightfast pencils, my paper media of choice recently has been Strathmore Bristol Vellum.t
