Julie Ann Maguire is a Yorkshire‑born colour pencil artist and illustrator whose work is defined by meticulous craftsmanship, emotional depth, and a strong sense of narrative. Raised in the hillside village of Queensbury, she grew up surrounded by the landscapes, wildlife, and industrial heritage that continue to inform her artistic voice. Although largely self‑taught, she refined her practice through vocational study with the London Art College and through guidance from leading colour‑pencil artists, shaping a style that is both technically assured and quietly expressive.

Working primarily in colour pencil, Julie creates imagery built through patient layering, subtle tonal shifts, and a deep attentiveness to atmosphere. Her subjects span portraiture, wildlife, still life, and heritage themes, each piece reflecting her fascination with the stories embedded in everyday life. Whether capturing the character of a familiar landscape or the intimacy of a fleeting expression, her work invites viewers to slow down and rediscover the beauty in the ordinary.

Julie’s achievements within the medium are widely recognised. She holds Silver Signature Status with UKCPS, awarded in 2022 in recognition of her sustained excellence and contribution to the field. Her exhibition record includes respected venues across the UK, notably the Oxo Tower Gallery in London (2021) and the Derwent Pencil Museum in Keswick (2025), as well as The Station Gallery in Richmond (2019), Castle Park Arts Centre in Frodsham (2018), and the Menier Gallery in London (2016). In 2026, her work showcased at The Mall Galleries as part of the UKCPS Silver Anniversary Exhibition, marking another significant milestone in her artistic journey.

Her artwork has been featured in Leisure Painter magazine and in international publications such as CP Treasures and the CP Hidden Treasures series, placing her among a global community of leading colour‑pencil artists. She is also an active member of the Association of Animal Artists (AAA), reflecting her long‑standing connection to wildlife subjects and her commitment to supporting animal‑focused art initiatives, and more recently has joined the Society for All Artists (SAA)

Julie lives in North West England, based on the Fylde Coast, where the coastline, communities, and shifting light continue to inspire her evolving practice. Today, she remains dedicated to exploring the expressive potential of colour pencil—using the medium not only to depict what she sees, but to honour the emotion, memory, and meaning woven into the world around us.
