After successfully completing 4 years of full-time art studies at the Sutton and Cheam School of Art in the late 1950’s and National Service in the RAF, Roger pursued a continuous career as a commercial artist eventually managing various prominent London art, design and advertising agency studios. On becoming freelance in 1980 he specialised in commercial airbrush illustration with his own client base, eventually deciding circa 1996 to concentrate on producing Fine Art drawings and paintings.
A prime consideration is sound basic drawing expertise, hence his commitment as a recent President of the Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA) - the drawing society, exhibiting continuously in their annual national exhibitions since 1998.
Other successful submissions and awards of merit at events include The Chelsea Art Society, United Society of Artists, Dulwich Picture Gallery “Friends” exhibitions, the Pastel Society and other groups in the prestigious Mall Galleries, he is also represented in the Mine Gallery, Carshalton, together with regular local exhibitions as a member of The Croydon Art Society.
His work has also featured in art techniques books published by the American “International Artist” and the British “Painting World” magazines.
A solo exhibition in 2001 preceded current continuous Tuesday art tuition sessions for adults at the Ripley Arts Centre, Bromley, Kent, tutoring in most drawing and painting techniques including his personal interest of portraiture.
Further involvements include contributing illustrated features, step-by-step demonstrations and critiques for the art press and at meetings of local art groups as well as commissions and some private tuition.
